Halibut, lateral view

The halibut exhibits bilateral symmetry, its elongated, flat body oriented horizontally. The upper side displays a mottled pattern of light and dark brown, while the underside appears lighter. A small, circular eye is positioned near the top of the rounded head. Two pectoral fins are visible, one along the dorsal ridge and another ventrally located. The caudal fin is truncated. A pointed snout extends forward from the mouth. The fish's form suggests an adaptation for bottom-dwelling and ambush predation.
